I'm sending my cylinder off to Aptec for ceramic lining soon and wanted to check a couple of things first.

I send the piston, but do I send the rings too?

Do I need to give them any info about what the gaps need to be or will they know that already?

Anything else I need to tell them?

I'd suggest you ask them these questions. Ultimately the work, specification and quality needs to be confirmed and agreed between you and them.

The last thing you or they need is opinions from outsiders who have not stake or risk in the decisions you're about to make between you and probably do not know the techniques or processes involved.

Talk to them, no one will know their process better than them. If they need information or you want to confirm or check tolerances ask them. If you're worried or want to check a tolerence ask them how they ended up at that figure. If it's a solid answer like, " we do all TS1's like this for the last 15 years" then you'll know they have experience. If they ask you for specific tolerance information then ask the forum but take your council carefully.

Thanks Rich.

I will call them again. I didn't ask these questions when I first rang as that call was a price and turnaround call.

I was wondering if there were specific tollerances with ceramic lining on a Lambretta barrel that I should be aware of, but your right. I suppose they should know.

Bilko I would expect a watercooled cylinder to run tighter bore clearance than a aircooled motor.
Ring Aptech and speak to them. They do a lot of Lammy cylinders and also Know what various tuners specify so can give you good advice.

Thanks Al

Just off the phone and yer man said the Lambretta is usually 3,000 clearance, but would do it to what I wanted. :?

I know the standard was 3,000 but didn't know what way to go with this RB barrel. Knowing that they get so hot, should I just keep it at 3.000 even though it's an LC head?

He was also saying about how Lambretta barrels were notorious for not being perfectly round.
