I hosted a gearbox calculator recently for Monty. Shortly afterwards I knocked this up taking the idea a stage further in Excel and thought I'd share it.

I've tried to get a graphical visualisation of the overlap between ratios that changes as you adjust the variables (gear ratios, sprockets, tyres etc).

It needs macros to run, so you would have to "enable macros" when you open it, and I've tested it in Office 2003 on XP, and OfficeX on Mac OSX 10.5.6 and 10.4.11.

Let me know what you think, issues, functionality or improvements (I'm not a programmer but I'll do my best)

That is excellent, lovely bit of work.

It's only when you look at it that way that you really see the drop from 2nd to 3rd on a rallymaster. :0

Only thought, is there something you can do for 3 speed engines then it opens it up for the J and lui folk, I suppose you could just put made up figures in the 4th gear section.

Thanks Ian

If anyone can give me some detail on the available box ratios and sprockets for 3-speeders, I'll write something similar.

Also if I've missed anything on this one (DJ CR Boxes, Omega 5-speed etc) I'll add them in later too.

Wow - this is easily the best gearing calculator I've seen.

Any chance you could make it compatible with Office 2008 (Mac/PC)? I can't get some of the macros to run on my Intel Mac - OSX - Office2008
