What have you to lose by cleaning the barrel and piston up and using it?
You may spend money on a new piston and replate and find another as yet unknown problem may cause more damage.
That piston looks fine, a good clean up, bit of cross hatching with a junior hacksaw to retain oil and go for it matey..a cheap fix at least till the rest of the setup has proved itself then for piece of mind get it replated over the winter..

Hello Dazza,
Thanks for the input mate. If I had everyone telling me it wasn't going to be a problem or it was just for me on the Lambretta, I'd have maybe gone for it,but with seize marks on all four parts of the barrel where the studs are and the fact my significant other is on the back and I don't want her stuck in the @rseh@le of nowhere because I didn't do a good job of cleaning up a seize.
Last time I tried cleaning up a job like this I made a right balls up.
As I say, thanks for all your help though. That goes to everyone.
