Right been round my mates tonight to have a look at this as he wasn't describing it very well.

Story is he'd noticed that the muggy (V3) was blowing and ended up having 3 of the cylinder head to cylinder threads helicoiled.

In the process of putting it back together (has to be said he's never rebuilt an engine) he said it wouldn't go any further, gave it a few taps, still wouldn't budge so took it off again to see what was going on and part of the spigot fell off, obviously where he'd cracked it.

I suspect he whacked it but he's not admitting such!

However on closer inspection there's a crack on the other half of the spigot too! you can see it in the following pics.

So I said I would post the pics and gather opinions?

Do you mean he had the cylinder casing studs done and if so they may have bulged the casing mouth out making the spigot tight then the tap broke the spigots.I have seen tight spigots before and it is caused by the studs in too far or too tight on the threads so I would check the casing before fitting a new cylinder and doing the same.

Nope, the V3 hasn't got the normal configuration of only 4 cylinder studs to the casing.

In the top of the cylinder on the v3 there are in fact 8 holes! 4 are the normal ones that slide over the cylinder studs, and 4 are threaded holes to hold the cylinder head separately to the cylinder itself if that makes sense?

Here's a pic from Google of a v3, note the holes on the head on the left as opposed to those on the cylinder?

Just a thought but when he had the helicoils done is it possible that some numpty held the spigot in a vice :o might account for the damage on both sides
