I have quite a loud metalic like rattling noise on my Li and its doing my head in... Normally i would try and steer clear of an inane question like this as it could have a 1000 answers but im stuped to where its coming from. I dont think its engine based but its at it worse when im poodling around and the scooters doing its usual spluttering and farting routine, When i open her up the sound goes, although this might have something to do with the increased speed and wind nosie?

Its defo not the fly or head cowelling as all have been checked and have correct rubber grommets. Its not the legshield scres or bolt or the headset, or fromy mudguard nor the stand which i have tied up with a bungy just in case....Chain and tensioner were also checked and are fine. also emptied out toolbox just in case..... :D

Iv just ordered some new rings so can check the top end out but im sure/hoping its not that.

As you say could be any number of things :?
Its not your keys in the ignition is it ? i can hear mine, and i put an elastic band around them to stop them rattling ;)
When i was young my Mom said "if you haven't got anything nice to say, say nothing at all " ..................... and people wonder why I'm quiet around them !

Toolbox lock? Put your thumb on it and see if it stops.

can you reproduce the rattle with the scooter on the stand by opening the throttle till it starts?

Then walk round the bike and check every area to see where its coming from

I have the same on mine and it's probably a baffle plate loose in my clubman, but haven't gotten round to taking it off to check yet...
Life shouldn't be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty, well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, loudly proclaiming: "WOW, WHAT A RIDE"

Take off your center-stand/splash guard and give it a run...see what you get. Mine was a cracked splash guard and weak spring.

What tank do you have, maybe a rattling baffle plate in that?

check your carb slide as it could be very worn .at low revs it would rattle most as it pulses back and forth against the carb body ..but at wide open it is supported more and would stop rattling ...this could also explain why its running a bit rough .
