Hi Everyone just wondering if anyone has experienced or rectified the following problem?
I have a P200e 1980 standard everything, When I start off by letting the clutch lever out its like being on a "Bucking bronco" but not all the time, and when riding along I change gear and about 10 - 20 secs later the clutch slips and a loudish bang as if the clutch had been engaged and disengaged quickly but a ghost that lurks below, Had an engine rebuild and new clutch any Ideas Thanks.

First of all I would check that the cruciform shaft has not come undone(left hand thread) as it sounds like it could be not engaging correctly leading to the loud bang as it goes into gear or the selector box shaft is worn. The other possibility is the cush drive springs have broken and this will cause the clutch to be snatchy and not smooth.I presume the clutch turrets are smooth with no wear ridges on them? and I have read some where that the steel plates are dished and should all face the same way although I have never seen this. Also is the clutch nut tight?

Hi Thanks for the info, Brand new everything including cruciform and even locktighted it back in place, new clutch, cables (inner and outer) upgraded from castleated nut to drt nut which was also threadlocked on all springs on clutch new and all cups new facing the same way, whilst engine was split and put back together all end floats where below tolerance recomended I have totally ran out of ideas, I wish it would burn out quickly so i could justify putting in a cosa clutch but because its brand new I can't at the moment. Thanks for all your help.

did you build the clutch on the p155 lining the 2 holes up (ie springs not straight but twisted slightly 1 way) ? cos if you didnt that can cause snatch

Almost every time I've worked on a bike that jerks like you've explained I install a new bronze bush and washer in the clutch. Also make sure the clutch bell walls are straight and not all dinged up from the clutch plates.
good luck!

clutch snatch on pulling away sounds like week springs, and when it jumps in mid flight after you changed gear sounds deffo like cruciform not engaging correctly, if its doin it mainly in 2nd to 3rd gear i would say at least one gear cog is back to front, probably 3rd gear , ive had this prob when i rushed a rebuild on a p200. best thing is to pop the cover off the gearselector at the engine and then have a look at the selector arm to see if it engages into each gear via the 5 notches and ballspring as you rotate the gear shift at handlebars, best jack the rear end of scoot so you can rock wheel back and forth to see if its well and proper into each gear or if it slips out easy??? ps a cosa clutch is the best money you will spend, well worth it.taff763 wrote:Hi Everyone just wondering if anyone has experienced or rectified the following problem?
