My pal's been round today, with his PX200. The gears are hard to select. First goes in with a big "clunk", and the rest seem to be "sloppy. We've tightened up the cables, and between the headset, and selector box everything is tight. But the headset control seems loose, and changing gear is a pain. I'm not sure where to start looking, but any advice is most welcome.

Cheers Pete

I find it's the clutch that needs adjusting when this happens.

the above are valid points

take the selector box off and check to ensure the selector rod (which the cruciform is screwed to) is tight - if not it can be tightened with a spanner then re assemble.
to access it take the selector box off - put the bike past 4 gear, undo the nuts and draw off selector box the rod hooks to the selector box arm

see scooterhelp website may help you visualise what is to be done http://www.scooterhelp.com/tips/engine/ ... vespa.html

note that it is opposite hand thread so anti clockwise to tightenen

best of luck
