Is there any reason why a normal pair of ear phones connected to the phone in a pocket (for directions) wouldn't work, to save splashing out on a Bluetooth set-up?

Timbo, I did 700 miles during the 2015 C2C on a standard GP seat and was in agony by the end of it! Thanks Storkfoot and Burnside for the mpg info. I'm changing from my 190 Suzuki conversion with 26mm PHBH, BGM Clubman and 60/107 crank that is great kit apart from only 35-40ish mpg / 9mpltr. 50-55 was what I was hoping for with the GT so sounds promising.
