was quite horrified to see how rusty my seat base was when i took the cover off, it had previously been blasted and stoved, can anyone suggest the maximum protection i can give it for the maximum length of time

Hi.I would get it acid dipped then zinc plated..etch primer then black two pack paint with a mist of clear wax oil to protect it once painted.

I thought of having my seat base blasted / zinc plated and powder coated but then cleaned the seat base properly an just covered with Owatrol/Waxyoil. Came out quite good.
Worth a try before spending cash.

One chip with powder coat the water gets under it as there's no etch onto the metal like spray etch painting

Water will get under powder coat quicker than under spray etch primer, this suggests that two pack is a better method.
