A few pictures of a club member RB225. This scooter was left to him by the late Tony Wood in his will. On the way from his house to Sandford park (about 10 miles) the piston ring peg desided to let go, wrecking everything. The scooter has done under a 1000 miles and was run in very slowly. The piston is wrecked as is the head, the cylinder may with a bit of luck just need a re-plate.
RB225 no more............

Oh dear. I looks pretty bad, take it to afs see if they can rescue it, they may be able to reline it. shame to have to bin it.
i be checking the crank bearings as well, seems a lot of debris for just a ring peg coming out. bad news on such a low mileage engine.
cylinder can be saved but if it needs ally welding at all its not going to be cost efective

langcourts do all the ally welding and everything before replating and at a quite reasonable cost
I think I will get him to check the crank. He was only doing 5-10 mph, just pulling into the carpark when it let go. The only thing missing on the piston was just the ring peg. Both rings were intact. I don't know how the price of a brand new RB225 cylinder costs against a re-plate.
A re-plate with some welding repairs cost about a £150, Langcourts. take about 7-10 days, they did mine after a circlip dropped out and wrecked the barrel
Keep on keepin on
ahh diddnt realize they did the welding as well .. may not be so bad then ..thanks markmark wrote:langcourts do all the ally welding and everything before replating and at a quite reasonable cost
