Does anyone know the correct length of a S3 rear shock? I have a brand new Escort unit which measures 12.5" across the centres but the JL3 I'm trying to fit hits the frame despite a little re-shaping :?

The next question is where can i buy a shorter unit, will it have to be an R6?

Thanks

Colin

Does it hit the lhs rear runner? Mine does, I have fitted an R1 shock which I believe is the shortest along with offset cones and some reshaping of the runner - it's clear now but still hits it if hitting a big pothole or sleeping policeman.
If it aint broke.........tinker with it.....

Thanks Martin....I have a S1/2 then which will be for sale shortly

Dazza, I don't know it it hits the runner yet, it was already cut when I bought the scoot but came without engine. I fitted it without the rear shock fittedf and then found that I couln't lift it high enough to fit the shock due to the top of the pipe fouling on the bottom of the stand under the center of the strut. I took it off and slightly re-shaped it in the offending area but it was a struggle to get the shocck on and I had the compress it by about 1/2" in the end

Mine doesn't hit the rhs runner at all, misses it by a mile, the u bend however clatters the lhs runner on the lower part nearest flywheel. This is withan R1 shock.

All this may change this morning though when I have another attempt at fitting an MB rear bracket to the JL3
