disc brake arm

the chrome on the actuator on my standard disc has started to flake .do i need to take it apart to have it rechromed? if so hows it done,were they chromed originally ? thanks

Chromed originaly ???... Not to my knowledge, Zink plated maybe, as lambretta didnt chrome very much. except badges, kickstarts, headlight rims and brake pedals... but good quality chrome on these parts does a better job of protecting the metal beneath, than any coating Innocenti ever put on them. IMO.... 8-)

I believe a lot of items were Cadmium plated which is not done nowadays (H&S issues). I had the arm of one plated Zinc plated but told the plating company what I was after and they prepared the arm to a really smooth finish and I polished the finished end result to good effect on a buffing wheel. (kits available for drill or bench grinders at Machine Mart)
Saves all the hassle of trying to strip the unit.
