Neutral is almost non existent, when pushing the scoot it slips/jumps straight into first or second with no effort at all, you can also move the shifter (on top of engine) into first or second with one finger and hardly any pressure...
Cables are newly routed to stickies manual, with new inner/outers... all adjusted correctly, neutral (tho non existent) lines up with the marking on the handlebar. I lined up the (trunion holding) gear selector 90-degrees to gasket face in 2nd.

Im not sure whats causing this, im going to check the gear shifter/bar is seated correctly on the splines that protrude from the casings this afternoon, along with making sure the base plate for the gear selector is over hanging the gasket face, just read stickies again.
Is there anything i can check out before having to split the engine again?

Are you sure it is actually in neutral and not a false neutral, say between 2nd & 3rd?

had a look at that yesterday, i had that prob with my small frame a few weeks back, so was familiar it can happen.
We checked against my friends lambretta and we have also rotated the back wheel to help in selecting the 'correct' neutral, selecting 4th was a prob though! from what i can remember.
Ill double check all this again this arvo, weather permitting, when i look at the selector arm!

Have you got to much tension on the cables (to tight) I have done that before and it jumped into gear on tickover..slackened of cables a tad and it never did it again..

If it's that easy to select gears with your finger I would suggest the spring has gone in the layshaft. Did you have the gearbox apart ?

Spring and shimming would be my guess. Although I haven't seen many springs just "go" on virgin motors. Usually motors that have been messed with and the spring damaged or a bad replacement installed. Bad shimming on standard untouched motors I have seen many times. In fact nearly all the time
