i have a variatronic on my ts1. im getting mixed messages from people about timing. im currently running 24 ish at tickover which goes down to about 16/17 at full revs.

some have said that it should be 20 going down to 14 but this seems too retarded sureley?

whats the current thoughts on ideal timing on the variatronic?

What you've got sounds ideal!

The whole idea of it is so you can run more advanced timing at low revs - like how yours is set

Used to have a varitronic on my muggelo ,I set it to what I thought was 17deg at 7000rpm but when dyno'd the engine got realy hot in the mid range because it was to advanced at this point Iswapped to a fixed ignition and the engine runs much cooler as you cant smell the engine when you stop .
I also have my doubts whether the timing was accuratly set as most timing lights dont seem to be able to cope with than 10000 pulses per min which is what the varitronic produces at 5000 rpm.If your rpm is more than that at full throttle are you sure the timing light is accurate in that rev range

On Tino's graph for the kit it shows the timing at 23-degrees at fast tick-over, backing off to 15-degrees at peak rpm. I'd start out with that for a TS1 as a base setting.
