what are the current options and how idiot proof and reliable are they

variatronic, it may be coincidence mut the two variatronic kitted scooters i rode were really easy and torque to ride.

augusto?

chiselspeeds augusto type thing?

reedspeeds kit?

are there any more and whats the best, ignoring cost and asuming i need a complete system.

You missed the new Casa Lambretta system which is the same as Varitronic but with a 1-piece flywheel (no rivets to shear). Two different weight versions. Lights probably not as bright at low revs as some but ok with an LED rear bulb.

An adjustable system like Chisels would be better if you want to optimise the engine on a dyno, but there's still the problem of finding a decent reliable flywheel and stator to run it off.
