Jumping out of 4th gear.

Hi All

Looking for ideas as to why my Lambretta may be jumping out of gear. This is my second Lambretta and I never had this problem on my other TV175. My current Lambretta is a bitsa with a TS1 on a SX200 block. I bought the scoot already built so I’m not sure what lurks inside the cases. It runs really strong and gives me no problems other than occasionally popping / jumping out of 4th gear jump when at cruising speed (65 70 mph).

When it does jump out, it’s easy to push back into gear without pulling in the clutch. It won’t go back into gear by it’s self like a Vespa might though. I’ve checked the gear selector cables and they are not too tight to be pulled inadvertently by the suspension travel. The swivel is sitting nice and firm on the post.

I’d appreciate any suggestions as to what the problem may be before digging around inside the transmission?

Any quick fixes? :lol:

Hey
make sure you don't have cable gators (rubber covers) on exposed gear cable near the case. they bunch up and never had much use for those things anyway. also make sure the selector arm is adjusted properly. if not it can keep the ball bearing selector in the layshaft from fully seating in place. hope this helps!

After you've checked the obvious it might be that the gear selector rod or its arm may be incorrectly positioned. If this is the case then I hope you've got the earlier LI type not the fixed later GP version, Refer to page 70 of Stickys manual to get a full explanation.

And...... it was the gear selector rod.

Thanks for the the tips. Save me pulling the transmission to look for the problem.
