Does anyone know who the original taffspeed shocks were made by? Not the cnc ones but the first ones. Was it Pro-tech?
Mine has lost its damping and is just bouncing around all over the place. Need to get it rebuilt if its feasible. Thanks

I don't know who built them, but if you are wanting the shock re-built, try a moto-cross specialist. They are always blowing their shocks and there is always a shock rebuilder with plenty of work.

Worth a try.

I was told it was by Rich Presley, when I was enquiring about their Pro Tech shock, that they made the Taffy shock too and this one was improved with a thicker shaft.

Ok, I removed the shock from the scoot earlier and took the spring off. The shock has no damping there at all so all the suspension has been on the spring. Noticed that the top of the shock body where the rod enters, there are 2 holes for a fork like tool to strip the shock. Another question, has any one tried stripping one of these down? Do they just contain oil or have they got gas in them as well. Thanks

it's oil and a sort of bag thing that provides the gas ..

Emailed AVO earlier and they got back to me and said that approximate cost to overhaul the earlier taffy shock is about £30 plus postage. Haven't got in touch with GAZ but will in the next couple of days. In the meantime I took the shock into work today and gave it to one of our craftsman who stripped it to see if he could see what was wrong. Visibly all looked well with all the seals looking ok but there is a type of star shape valve thingy in the bottom of the body. I'm imagining that it has something to do with the damping adjuster. Anyway this valve seemed siezed and wouldn't move so after getting it to move he refilled it with oil and put it back together. suspension was better but this time there was loads of rebound. Put the shock back on earlier to try it out and its back to how it was.

Was taking the spring off a simple enough job ? Ive been offered one but the colour of the spring is putting me off, but if its easy to do ( no special tools etc ) then I could spray the spring.
