Opinions wanted

Hi

I am putting an engine together for my Euro Lambretta trip; it’s a brand new SIL 200 casing to which I’m fitting a 225 Indian Ally top end. The barrel has been ported by Mick Abbey with the brief that I was looking for torque rather than max BHP. I will be running it with a 28mm PHBH and a JL3, Indian electronic plus an Augusto 6000.
I have a race crank fitted with a 110 jap rod which was put together by the late Dave Betts and I also have a MEC race crank. I know I’ll need a packer for the 110 rod (Dan recommended 2.5mm) but will that give me any worthwhile benefit over using the MEC?

I had heard that 225’s tend to vibrate a bit and that the 110 rod helps reduce it.

Your thoughts would be much appreciated; I haven’t seen the barrel yet and can’t wait to put the thing together.

Also, I will be using a 125 Special gearbox and bearing in mind that I want a comfortable touring set up, what sprockets would you advise. (I’m around 12 stone)
Again, your opinions would be most welcome 8-)

back to back the 110 rod will make a huge improvement. my brother is going with a 120 rod and matching piston on his rt255 to take the vibes out.

60 stroke with a 110 rod seemd to be the people favourite though for most uses.

125 special is the same as a gp200 box. do you know where peak power is expected to be?

No I don't know precisely and I probably never will unless I get it on a dyno. Dan has suggested 16 x47 sprckets as a start which equates tyo 5.88 but I was hoping that it would pull something taller and won't have much time before the off to do any experimenting :(

My Mk1 186 muggy was running a 4.89 ration (Li 150, 16/46) and only struggled on steep hills or strong headwinds so I was really hoping that ther extra grunt from to bigger engine would make the difference :?

Sorry bud, that is my mistake then......i dont know why but i thought you were running an Li150 box, my mistake sorry. If you were, the 16/47 combo would give you approx 5.0 final ratio, which i thought would be a good starting point.

However, as i see you are actually running a 125 specialbox (sorry for the confusion) then something like a 18 or 19/47 would be a better place to start....

Nice one Dan, that's what I wanted to hear 8-) What size chain would I need for an 18 or 19/47 set up?

Thanks Dan.........I guess I'll put a request in the Wanted section for a stretched (worn) 82 link ;)
