Rapido225 clubman to JL3

Well I'm stumped now as I was expecting a noticeable difference from going from a box pipe to an expansion. From 42mm clubman to JL3 and no difference in performance in fact almost exactly the same top end
63mph with clubman 65mph with JL3 GPS'd on Blackberry phone using Traxx app.
When I had the clubman on last week it ran sweet & pulled really well all the way to top end & was pulling up hills in 3rd & 4th no probs with sx200 gearbox 15/46.
Clubman & carb setup was:
28 phbh
50 pilot
120 main
40 slide
AV264
x13 p2
foam filter
JL3 & carb setup
28 phbh
55 pilot
125 main (now 120)
40 slide
AV266
x7 p2
foam filter
On first test it was a bit spluttery/4 stroking up hill in 3rd gear at full throttle so did a plug chop and colour was chocolate brown. Did this a few times & worked it down back to a 120 main. Plug colour still the same light chocolate brown.
With the 120 main it seems better but can't help thinking it ran much better with the AV264/x13 rather than the AV266/x7 setup.
Will going back to the AV264 & x13 be too lean
Any help much appreciated
Mike

Not much practical help Mike but personally i prefer to see my JL3 hanging out the back rather than a peashooter
Did you go for that oil by the way?

Me too but the price of a JL3 compared to a clubman with from what I can make out so far giving very little better in performance is a very expensive look

Will do once I get round to ordering it. Still got your PM with the link you sent me in my messages
Been tinkering with the carb settings again this afternoon & set them back as I did when I had the clubman on but went a tad smaller on the main jet to see how it went. Just wanted to compare the AV266/x7 with the AV264/x13 & it feels much more responsive on the AV264.
AV264 & x13 on p2
118 main
52 pilot
Much more responsive right through out the rev range now with a light brown colour on the plug but don't think top end will be any better than the clubman

running a rapido classic 225 this year on my rally scoot. 30 mil solid mount dellorto, 50 pilot, 125 main ,300 needle jet, not sure of atomiser/needle, as havnt changed it or looked at it for four years! (will look tomorrow!) remote filter,on an elbow(just one i made up), and a 42mm clubman, running 19x46 GP200 gears, 4.8? will pull a 20 front sprocket easy, but i built it this year for twos up, and luggage etc. nowt passed me on the way to whitby, pulled up all them hills in fourth easy, and could easy wang past cars on the dual carriage way bits. why not try a 16, or even 17 tooth front? mines just matched to manifold etc, and a polish on the exhaust port, chamfered ports etc.an hour of fettling, but out of the box really.

So with a remote filter fitted & at 118 main at the moment I could still be running a bit rich on the main jet
What pilot jet was you running with the JL3
Cheers
Mike

Think it was 55 but the carb is on my smallframe now. 118 could be rich still. Is it a Rapido classic? It maybe that the port timings will not let it rev more so it wouldnt matter what pipe you put on it.Try a smaller jet and give it a quick blast.Mine was fine with the 115 with no filter.
