TS1 cylinder damage advice
Well where do I start, MOT booked 8.00 for my standard TV, for the 1st time ever it failed to start, as I was running a bit late, thought never mind The GP TS1 mot runs out in a few weeks do that instead, Started up no probs off I went, I thought this is running beautifully straight through the mot filled up with petrol at the mot station 200 yds down the road brrrrr lose power and stops, dodgy petrol I thinks, however no compression, got picked up by a mate stripped it down, not dodgy petrol but a gudgeon pin circlip had come out and fxcked the barrel and piston. 7 or 8 deep scores down the barrell through the nicasil into the ally, and piston scored up. As the cylinder has porting work done and is dowelled for the cylinder head, I would rather have it repaired than buy a new barrel, can the barrel be welded prior to replating? it is a low compression height Racetour piston as it`s running a 60mm stroke 115mm con rod.

Langcourts should be able to sort that out for you, you may have to tidy up if the welding has to be done around any ports.

could get the barrel lined which gives re-bores later on, gives you an option anyway.

Thanks for the replies, I think I`ll go down the repair & replate route, the scores are about 1mm deep, If it was a std. TS1 motor I would just get a new barrel & piston, but with the 60mm stroke crank & 115mm rod, my cylinder & head has been altered to suit the low compression height piston, and it was a lovely smooth running motor. Any body got contact details for Langcourts.

Just out of interest pictures of the damage, this motor has done 3.5k miles, is it a case of circlip not put in properly or can they come out.

Of all the different types of pistons I have fitted, the Racetour circlips must be the hardest to get in but once in they're in!. Wondered if you may have distorted one when fitting?. Shame about the top end and the expense just because of a two bob circlip.
mb do a 71 mm piston now, i used one to save welding and get a bit of extra cc for my (wasted) money.
i chose a re plate as i just cant do the running in without anxiety attacks
