Reliable commuter.

Hi.
After 20+ years of Vespa riding, i'm getting my first Lambretta this year.
The plan is to use it to commute about 30 miles (round trip) to work and back, all year round, in all weathers.
Reliability is the most important thing I'm looking for. I'm not overly bothered about performance.
With my as yet limited knowledge of Lambrettas, I'm thinking something like SIL 200 engine, 12 volt electrics, electric ignition, augusto/varitronic, tubeless rims, outboard disc brake, lots of waxoyl
It'd be great to hear what you recommend for an ultra-reliable daily user and how many of you use your Lambrettas every day. (I realise ultra-reliable and Lambretta are words not often used in the same sentence!).

I general keep checking most things on a daily basis when using everyday for the commute...plug/cable adjustment/oil leaks/tyre pressures/make sure nothings fell off.. :D ..

Lastly as a lambretta rider of over 20 years get a vepa... :frog:

i personally think that all scooter shapes are nice, just like the shapes of women....
i realize that some of you may prefer the slim types and others the more voluptuous types

So to some up then gents...
A lambretta is a skinny, good looking tempremental sort of thing......and a vespa is odd shaped funny looking but she will always have ye tea on the table when you get in from work and wont complain when your mates turn up with a porno and she has to watch coronation street up stairs sort off a thing..

Yep get a vespa- used my SX for a daily commute for a couple of years and while it never let me down, I found I had to check everything over a lot more than I would have done on my old smallframe. After a long day at work, the last thing you really want to do is have to p155 about with preventive maintenance. Just want to start the bugger and get to work/go home :| Oh also the state of roads in the UK these days isn't exactly friendly to any vehicle these days ( let alone all the bellends on the road as well :x ) best to have a machine you arn't going to feel to bad about should you come a cropper on a pothole/diesel spill or have some nutty tw@7 knock you off. :flaming:

Sadly I would concur. A totally standard Lambretta might do at a pinch but even then you'd be better off with a Vespa. After 27 years of Lambretta ownership I find myself having spent thousands on a Scooter that threatens suicide every time I show it a motorway. I love it to bits but those fat, ugly, boring, characterless GTS 250s are looking more and more attractive (even if they do rot like pears).

Marry a Vespa but keep a Lambretta as a mistress.
