Crankshaft truing

Firstly I apologise if I'm going over old ground for a lot of people, but I have a mec crank in very good condition, apart from that it's webs are out of true.(As I just found out on building the engine). The barrel and piston I got with the crank appear to have had a slight seize which may have caused it?
I can get the crank re-trued locally, but if it's that loose what's to stop it happening again? The reasons for perhaps getting it trued are that I just fitted a new stator side bearing (and track) and I want to keep the origonal points set up, rather than just get a new gp crank.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.
