Electronic pick up coil

Last Sunday the bike started to miss badly when taken above 1/2 throttle and then gradually progressed to anything above 1/4 throttle. I changed the plug, HT cap, checked wiring for loose connections, cleaned out the carb filter, unplugged green wire from CDI, etc, etc. But the problem became worse the longer the engine was running.
Under hard revs in neutral it didn't clear out either and had a repetitive consistent miss. Various "experts" offered their opinions one being the Electronic pick up coil. I haven't had chance to take a proper look yet. But I wanted to know what problems other's have had when the pick up coil has started to pack in. If it turns out to be just that, then it should be a quick fix and I'll count myself lucky it isn't anything more costly. I'll order one as a spare anyway.
Are the LML ones better than the SIL ones? If it matters it's a Ducati AF stator that had low tension replaced and rewound, but I can't remember if any other work was done or if pick up is original.
Thanks
