Stator Plate Pickup Query

Fitted a re-wired stator plate and there was no spark, swapped back to my BGM and there is a spark, swapped over to the re-wired and no spark. I did notice the difference in position of the pickup in comparison...

The first pic shows a BGM on top of the rewired one where the pickup is much closer to the edge of the laminate, in line in fact, whereas the re-wired is sitting back. On the bottom pic you can see the pickup is also siiting pissed
Could this be the problem

Well, it occurs to me that the pick up on the rewired stator must then be contacting the flywheel. My grasp of electrickery is vague, but isn't the whole point of the electronic pick up that it is the gap between it and the magnet passing it that triggers the spark? If they are physically in contact it's not going to work surely?

They're not in contact, I sent it back due to contact and now this

If not in contact then it must be pretty darn close. I'm just thinking along the same lines as a spark plug really, and we all know the gap dictates how it functions.

What makes you think it's close

It has to be on the basis of the evidence in the top photo where the pick up clearly sits out more. Also, and this may just be my imagination, there seems to be the slightest hint of striking on the edge. The bottom as you've pictured it.

Mike, is that a dry joint on ther red wire, it doesn't look like its flowed properly. Also, have you tried checking the resistance through the pickup?

The top stator in the top picture is the BGM, the bottom stator in the top picture the the rewound one. There's no contact with the pickup, if anything, it sits too far away.

We would appear to be misunderstanding each other. The pick up on the rewound stator would appear to be a ml or so taller than that of the BGM. It sits further away from what?

The magnets.
It was rubbing before, so I sent it back, I don't know if they fitted another pick up or what, but it now sits further away from the edge of the laminates and therefore the magnets, and it's also pissed, but it is definitely not rubbling or sparking.
