Engine strip questions

This is my first real complete Lammy engine strip, it's all gone suprisingly well!But I have a couple of questions for you knowledgeable ones out there!:
How the hell can I get the four main bearing retaining plate screws out? These are flat head type but completely chewed up, is it ok to drill the heads off, as bearing, seals and screws will be replaced.

I want to give the casing a good clean, and will give it a good soak (inside and out) wth 'gunk', but is it ok to wash of with a pressure washer, as although i'm replacing the main bearing, I was going to keep the rear axle bearing in place and re use?

i would not drill the heads off just yet...if you do you will still have the prob of removing the studs....
firstly i would try an impact driver ..
if that fails use the "easy out " system....

try chipping them at the edge of the screw driver slot with an old screw driver or chisel.they may be loctited in the last resort is to drill the heads off!

The advice given is the way I would try to undo them.

The impact driver will have a half inch square drive this is the end piece that the driver parts parts sit into. This part is removable, fit a short extension bar out of a socket set onto the driver and replace the end piece, it will prevent you clouting the inside of the crank casing and mag housing gasket face.

Make sure the impact driver is set to undo, then use a medium weight hammer to undo them, but make sure the slotted bit gets a grip on what's left of the screw heads.

Another question for you all:
The rear hub has threaded studs (reverse threads, I believe) one has striped the thread. Are there oversized replacements available? (but who would have a reverse tap?) or do I bin the hub?

Can anyone suggest a way of removing (sacrificing, especially if it's alloy) the plate, maybe with dremel etc. That way the screws may be able to be moved with mole grips.
