200 running rough

my jet 200 is now playing up!

fitted the new rear hib etc so decided to take it for a run, It started with no problems and ticked over ok,

got on it, select first, and pull away, at about 1/2 - 3/4 throttle it started to die/bog down so pulled in clutch gave it a bit of a rev and set off agin but done the same, was going fast enough to select second and similar problem again when i was at 1/2 - 3/4 throttle it wouldnt run

i was thinking it could be the cdi unit, ht cap lead and plug??

anything else to try?

Back brake binding on new rear hub me thinks ;) , over did it on mine once, stopped my RB after a mile or so :oops: .

the back wheel and hub spin freely when turned by hand on bench tho?

it feels like fuel, but plenty getting through

clean your carb and jets out and try anew plug

joda, next time your out on it and youv done a few miles put your hand on the rear hub, if it is that it,ll be very hot, i could turn mine with my hand after i,d adjusted the brake, but it must have been catching the shoes enough to heat it up, it actully blisterd the powder coating :oops: . i hope it is the rear hub as its easy to sort :D , good luck with it.

I'd certainly suggest the rear hub too, I had pretty much the same problem when I set off to Mersea with my mate, I couldn't keep up with his T5 and the harder I tried the more I was dropping back, finally worked it out when I stopped and saw the plastic lining melting out of the lock nut.... I'd adjusted the brake the day before and it span freely then.

had another fiddle last night!

the choke jet was loose [jetex carb, the long one on the r/h side as you look at it fitted] so i screwed it back in tight, re fitted float bowl etc, and kicked it up, but it would only run with the choke on, and wouldnt take any throttle it would just die, also if the choke was turned off it would die, it is a 50 jet from memory

so i unscrewed it again so it was loose, and the scooter would start and run with no choke, and die when the choke was put on, however the amount of fuel that was running down the carb onto the floor means that running like this is no good!!!!

any suggestions??

standard 200, sterling pipe, jetex carb

engine only running with choke on is a good sign of main jet blocked.............in fact take carb apart thoroughly clean in petrol/parafin, blow all jets through with air line and re-assemble making sure that all parts are scrupulously clean on re-assembly.....................


P.S. also ensure that atomiser has not unscrewed..........happened to me once.

do you know anybody else with the same spec scoot as yours so you could borrow there carb to see how yours runs then ?
