engine numbers

I,ve just been lookin through some engine cases to find a good one and noticed on some indian cases that one is stamped innocenti then the s then 402*187xxx , the other one has no innocenti stamp just the scooters india s 400*154xxx . What does the 400 and 402 mean ?, thanks

If its the same as the Indian frames, the number between the frame serial and vin was a country code - which country it was intended for. i.e. 22/2 * 02 * xxxxxx would be for whatever country they designated 02 to be.

I think 02 was the UK as a GP frame I bought in the UK in the late 80s was stamped 22/2*02*00x09x.
