JL fitting instructions

Hi

I recently bought a brand new second hand JL3 and don't have any fitting instructions. Although it looks pretty straight forward, I want to make sure that I get it right.

Does anyone have a fitting diagram or instructions please?

Hello mate...i don't remember my jl3 comming with any fitting instructions. I did have to trim back my floor board a tad but probably not essential.
As you said it's not to difficult to work.

That's a coincidence, I have also just bought a brand new unused JL3, the previous owner had problems getting it to fit. I havn't tried fitting mine yet but I have been told that these can be a pain to get to fit and that it's best to leave everything loose and tighten up from the rear forwards. The price was good s I don't mind fettling if I need too and my rear runner has already been cut.

Yeah, the floorboard was trimmed some time ago for another pipe.

The advice to tighten everything up from the rear - forward seems reasonable, I just want to make sure i get the fittings the right way round. I haven't tried yet and when I do, I'll probably find that it'll only go on one way, but I thought i'd seek the advice from someone on here first.

I'll be fitting a new JL3 to a bike this week, will report back any issues

it went on ok, not the trickiest pipe to fit
had to very slightly enlarge the slot on the chaincase bracket for the front pipe bolt.
I tightened bracket to the chaincase first.
it was easier putting the bolt in from the front whilst holding the pipe in position.
at the rear I put everything loosely together, then tightened the rear chaincase bracket first, I replaced the supplied bolts with some 6mm stud, which made sure it was going into the chaincase ok.
I had to cut the right hand running board, around the bolt bracket, but this is inside the panel, and I also trimmed the back edge of the running board, although as the can is so far back, there was more clearance there than on other pipes.
looks like a well made exhaust, and sounds nice, quite deep and not offensively loud to upset the neighbours.

the only prob i had was i had to trim the r/h footboard where it meets the nylon bobbins on the chaincase.mines a curly one b.t.w........the exhaust i meant!!

My frame is still at the painters .....hoping to get it next week to start the rebuild. so I aint going to be fitting it for at least 10 days or so. I'm just hoping that I don't have to take any more off the footboard.

I had a problem fitting mine to muggelo 186. I ended up making a new bracket. My initial reaction was that the JL was wrong, but it turned out the mating face on the cylinder exhaust casting is not quite in the standard position which throws the whole mounting out.

Jim Lomas was very helpful and sent a modified bracket for me to try, free of charge. Unfortunately the final solution was a bit more radical.
