Asking for a mate looking for a quick answer, is the Halite gasket crucial or just a added bonus. Re-build going on now for tommorow. Help please

Thanks Sean, i'll let him know, his words were if it's 75% safe he would take a chance, from your answer i'd guess it's not worth the risk

The Halite gasket is there to seal the drive plate to the bearing this stopping a short circuit of crankcase pressure & that of sucking gearbox oil into the engine.

Do not use sealed driveside bearings as this does not allow oil to lubricate the one side of the drive side double lipped seal!
I have found them fitted in many an engine that came through our workshop.

Also fit the seal with the spring inwards to the crankshaft! If you have the indian alloy seal retaining plate these can distort when tightening the 4 screws, use a steel one.

Thanks for the replys i believe he stopped the rebuild and tracked back to the missed gasket
