Just wondering which one to buy between the two types.
For the Indian SIL ones. I don't know if there are any other different 'SIL' types out there to choose from or stay away from. I know the black pick up can fail on them all.
For the Tawianese BGM ones. I'd go for the smaller wattage one 60 or 80w as I wouldn't have a 120w regulator. I hope they use a better pick up than the SIL ones. I briefly looked at one the other day and the backplate seemed to still have the circular hole in where the old condenser used to fit?

I would pick up a duff SIL stator and get it rewound as per the thread a couple of weeks back. Do a search and have a look

Thanks, I flicked through the thread at the time but I've just had another closer look at it now. I might get another Variatronic!
The problem I've had with both the Varitronic and the Augsto was that I was never quite sure how the things were set up properly. I did all the set ups and have a strobe but was never 100% happy. A static ignition is easier to get my little head round. I also live in a hot area ( Texas) at the minute so anything to with keeping the engine cool is very important.

I have a BGM 80 Watt stator plate that I was going to replace my Italian Ducati made AF stator as the lights from that stator are less than what can drive a 35watt headlamp, which appears a little yellowish and dim. Only the 25 watt headlamps appear bright but they don't throw the light very far.
Should I have the original Ducati AF stator rewound? Or should I run the BGM stator? I'd like to keep the AF stator as the ignition is spot on and perfect. Guess I answered my own question.

If i was going to rewind a stator from scratch and had a choice, I would choose a Ducati before an SIL stator back plate, as the quality of the laminates is higher and the plastic bobbins are better to wind onto, as they are more robust than the soft plastic of the SIL bobbins...
Is the stator your going to use for a dc conversion or just 12 volt ac?
I would go for an AF one, try and tested for yrs.
If the choice is between the 2 BGMs then go for the larger wattage one, if you're worried about the regulator wattage ride with the lights on all the time and you won't have a problem.Lamaddict wrote: For the Tawianese BGM ones. The Italian flywheel magnets are not as strong as the Indian ones so the output will be a bit lower. Just 12 volt AC. I detest batteries. If I use a LED rear tailamp would I be able to run a 50w/50w halogen headlamp?
