Access to Flywheel Bearing

A quick question regarding the mag housing. Do you need to completely remove the barrel before it's possible for this to come away from the casing, thus giving access to this bearing.
The reason I ask is there seems to be a little bit of float on the flywheel, about 0.5 so I may need to investigate this.
Any input would be appreciated.
