Hi all,

How do I remove front hub bearings and seals?
Ive removed the distance piece and seal on the back of the drum so I can now see the circlip and bearing, but on the speedo drive side I'm struggling to remove anything other than the speedo seal.
Is there a way of removing the bearings and distance peice (between bearings) without damaging then? or is it just a case of whacking then through and renewing!!??

Thanks

This is what I do, others may differ.............
Remove both oil seals with a screwdriver or something similar, remove circlip and put to one side (safe place) drift out the bearings from the opposite side of their location. You may have to move the distance piece to get to the first one. As you had to drift out the bearings, don't forget to obtain new ones (and seals) on re-assembly.

Hope that's clear enough.........
NO IT'S NOT A F***IN* MOPED!!!!!!

Cheers, managed to get both seals out and the circlip, so now I'm just left with the middle distance peice, and both bearings. what should I be using as a drift to get the bearings out? they seem impossible to move!

Ideally you want a soft long thin metal piece like brass or alluminium to not damage the hub. I reccomend the use of a blow torch to expand the hub. Bearings should come out fine. Refit distance piece, grease well, and refit the bearings with appropriate drift.

you need a piece of round bar that will fit through the bearing about the same length as the spindle you took out (or a bit longer if you are not a good aim with a hammer coz you have to hit it)
Push it through the bearing move the middle distance piece out of the way (you may need a good sideways push coz it will be tight between the bearings)
then get a hammer and tap the opposite bearing out by resting the bar on the inner bearing race. ( this is why you need to renew them coz they will be damaged)
Hope this helps
