piston shims do I really need them?

So far I have not fitted piston shims on any of the series II engines I've built. I know that some series III engines do use them. Could anyone tell me if TV175's used piston shims as standard? will I need them? If so where I can get them that aren't bad quality?

Regards,

Jaime

Piston shims were introduced with an new rage of crankshafts (durring thenproduction of the sereies 3 I think). Theese had more side float on the big end to improve lubrication (2% oil on 125s and 150s).

All original types of TV175 cranks are used without shims!

But if in dout with a 150 or 125 Crank:

The old crankshafts have 0,1-0,13mm side-play between crank an conrod. The new type has 1,14-1,3 mm side-play and need Piston shims to centralise the conrod.

basically from the introduction of the SX range onwards shims were used.

Don't forget that many cranks have been changed over the years so I'd follow the posting above re side p[lay
