I have here an original 175 cylinder that has been taken to 66mm back in the eighties. They took it so far the walls of the cilinder are paper thin. They have also taken the crank apart and replace it with a regular 150/200 con rod... so... Any ideas of what can I do to replace the bad TARBUSI piston? They are awful. Could I replace the piston for a TS185 piston and put a 175 conrod back on? Other conrod?...

It is possible to get a cast iron barrel fitted with a steel liner this will give u a thicker spigot to go into the engine block also it gives you chance to play with the transfers to improve performance.
As for piston choice you can use anything in mb the race tour piston range below 66mm. expensive I know but may be less than a 116mm tv rod and new tv piston

Thanks a lot for the input. I have been suggested a religning of the iron barrel by various people as well. Does anyone have an idea of costs of this?

As far as I know what they do is get it completely honed, get a new iron cylinder, rebuild the liner and fit it in the fins.. Is this correct?

Anybody has an idea of how much a liner could cost for an iron barrel?

what I've done in the past is get hold of an SR type 185 barrel and have it bored to a 66mm piston (200cc's or thereabouts).

Running in is minimal and I've never had a nip up with 3 thou (imperial NOT metric) clearance.

Used Mahle piston from Scooter Restorations at £30 or so.

Ran very well and a cheap option

PJ motorcycle engineers can do the job, it is called re-sleeving. web site is www.pjme.co.uk As for the cost it is similar to the cost of re plating a TS1 barrel (approx £130)

Why don't you just scrap it and use a different cylinder and crank ?
Surely there's got to be a more cost effetive option ?
A new MECEUR crank might cost about the same as buying a new rod and bearing and having it fitted to the old crank.
For £130 you'll have a few cylinder options too.

Thank you peeps for the info. I have been considering the option of an AF ali 175 kit.. Not the same thing tho. Their design is simply based on the indian GP150 over bore barrel. Not impressed by it. I don't think that kit will give the same result as the classic 116 tv stroke. That smooth ride... if you know what I mean. I agree that the best option is the kit, but in my humble opinion, it is a special scoot and a special barrel. I will for sure consider spending the dosh in a new crank thou.

Biggest oversize I could see with Wiseco was 65.50 mm.
