That is my Li150 Special with the ScootRS stamped panels. The gap is about 1 inch. While I was disappointed I knew I was taking a gamble in testing these. I would be surprised to see these same panels fitting properly on somebody else's Lambretta. My Special may not be ideal but I doubt it is that far off. In the end, I use them in cold and rainy weather (I have a set of Li panels with louvers for hot weather). My Special is not a show bike so I am not too concerned with the appearance of the gap and nobody notices unless it is pointed out.

My experience with ScootRS parts has been okay overall. Their expansion chamber fit fine and was a good value for the dollar although I have since replaced it with a JL. The rack/carrier I purchased was also fine but is showing a bit of rust after three years of year-round riding (plenty of rain).

In our current "global economy," we frequently do not know the origin of the parts we are buying. I have purchased presumably high quality Italian and German parts only to get them into the garage and learn they are junk. I will never assume a part is good or bad based simply on the company that sells it.

You folks in the U.K. are blessed with a high concentration of Lambretta shops and parts manufacturers. My opinion is to support your local businesses whenever possible. Call around--somebody over there may have a set of these panels for you to see firsthand.

I took the chance and bought a pair. Shipping costs as much as the panels, instantly doubling the price.

The stamped panels look okay except for two issues.

1 They are too short
2 They are not drilled for badges or flashes

Image

Aside from the appearance, the shortness is a problem when mounting them onto the scooter. The latches will not reach the spring. Fortunately, I had an old spare so I bent it up so the latches could reach it.

The gap is bigger than it appears in the photo. (TWSS)

Hello Dave

On ScootRS homepage thera are 2 versions of the panels:

One budget version for 39.95$ these are:
http://scootrs.com/moreinfo.cfm?Product_ID=61
Quote from ScootRS home page
"These are new items. They are manually stamped and shaped and partly welded, so not perfect like fully machine-stamped items, and not appropriate for powdercoating. "

Then there is a more expensive version for 69.95$
http://scootrs.com/moreinfo.cfm?Product_ID=1701
Quote from ScootRS homepage:
"These are new machine-stamped panels, not welded at all or handmade like most available."

Which version have you bought Dave ?

I've bought the more 69.95$ version, I'll supply a pic when I get them

Best Regards

Hi OlaN. The panels I have which are shown in the photo are the new stamped panels, not the budget panels. The panels did come primered but there were significant flaws in the primer and it could not be painted without sanding and re-primer. I was not concerned about this because I painted them at home with spray paint (what we call rattle-can).

I am curious to see the photos of your new panels and hear your opinion.

Repro body panels don't use the original tooling so to produce such a close copy is fantastic especially when you look at the compound curvature involved with Lambretta side panels. The price that you would have to pay for ''PERFECT'' originals make these in comparison excellent value, and I would imagine that it was the price of these copies as well as their availability that first attracted you to them
PS they look good on the photo

I know this isn't probably "the way", but could you jack up the rear runners with extra anti vibration washers at both ends to make is slightly better?

You may have to do the point where the runners and legshields meet too though to keep it level........

Just a thought............

I could do that. But with a one-inch gap to fill, that's a lot of "jacking up." I could take up a half-inch of the gap without throwing the alignment of the legshield off too much but any more than that and things would get wonky. The floor of the leggies would be at an angle to the floorboards, which might look odd. In then end, I would still have a half-inch gap and while that is better than before it's still off spec. Not that I'm an anorak.

I posted a photo in the other thread where they seemed fine so, if ever a problem like this, just got to http://scootrs.com/help.cfm and the Returns / Problems / Refunds section and send in the info requested there to get help.

This might sound weird, but the first Lammie I ever owned (also the first scoot I ever owned) back in Kentucky, had that same gap using original Li tipe of pannels. I didn't do anything to the body cause the scoot was very straight, just paint...
