What size filter for TM24?

I need a new air filter for my Mikuni TM24 as the one I have has a steel cap on it and it is too restrictive since it is tucked in between the long-range tank and toolbox. A Ram-Air type with a foam top would seem to be what is required. All of the filters I've seen quote Dellorto carb sizes and so I'm not sure what will fit.
This is what I have now. The carb outside diameter is 44mm

Carb and Reed Block on re-worked Mugello 240

All a bit too squashed. Something with a foam top would give it more area to suck through.

The hole it has to fit in.

This might work but still a bit restrictive.
Is there an alternative to Ram-air. They seem insanely expensive for a bit of foam bent into a tube with another bit glued on top!

do your engine and your self a favour.........cut a hole in the panel and let it breath...it will then give you far better performance and put a smile on your face........

then work it out for yourself and do the sums.....
240cc times say 7000 revs per minute.....
how many cc,s of air is needed to supply that.....?
and dont forget that cooler air is better than pre heated air from under panels etc....

I'd only do it if I had a spare side panel.

mbd do a filter kit which is all foam and comes with a number of rubber reducers so it will fit a tmx35 down to the lid of a byro pen
alternatively i had a plastic dellorto bell mouth from a 25mm machined down to to press onto the tm24 then a camlam breath sweet fits. you are tight for space though so the mb one may be better
drill the panel......

there must be a down draft carb out there worth using?

if there is enough gap between carb and panel ,just run the carb open and jet to suit.

Why don't you turn the rubber bellow 90 degrees so that the filter towards the rear end of the scooter?
According to LTH website outside diameter of 28/30 mm Dell'ortos (PHBH) is 42 mm.

good idea, my ts1 runs a breath sweet like this. the breath sweet on a tm24 on my jet 200/muggy made no ill effect on the air flow while on the dyno. the panel being put back on did though and it had to be re jetted.
