Head Gasket fitting

I have been told there is no need to run a head gasket on my standard 200. Therefore, this way you can pack the base by this amount to raise the timings and set the squish so there is no need to fit the top gasket.
Should I use some silicon on the top end or perhaps something else to get a good seal?
PS I know the inlet timing will shorten accordingly so will remove 1mm or so form the piston inlet side once calculated.
