Alright you orribile lot, i have to clean my carb out as there appears to be some siht in there from the tank. Now i have always steered well away from these things. Lots of springs, screws and all manner of other stuff that will fly off and disappear.

Thing is it looks as though i have to do this myself... :? Anyways first issue i have come across is how to take the choke cable out of the carb. I have unscrewed the bolts at the top where the cable goes in but the cable appears to still be attached. Normnally at this point i would get my pliers out and give it a yank but i suspect that this may not be the best way to attack it. Can someone kindly explain how you do this. It is a tad embarrasing not to be able to get the bloody thing off the scoot let alone be able to clean it. any other advice greatly accepted. Also some one said about counting the number of screws/turns when i take it apart...whats all that about

Oh yeah it a delly 30mm onan RB200

Puts tin hat on...

The choke cable will be attached to a choke plunger via a spring. If you have undone all the brass connections to the choke on the top of the carb, it should just pull out easily complete with the plunger attached. As for counting turns, this should only apply to the screw with the external spring on it, which sets your slide height, and the air/mixture screw, which sets your mixture for starting/idling. You should be able to take the top off your carb and withdraw the slide complete. Get an aerosol air duster or such like. Take the bottom float bowl off carefully, clean the inside of it. Using the aerosol duster, blow through all jet orifices. Also blow through the hole where your petrol pipe attaches. You can strip it further, but I would recommend that you get an exploded view of your type of carb to assist with disassembly/reassembly, and lay everything out on a clean cloth in the order you take it apart. If you take your jets out of the main carb body, remember which holes they go back in and do not overtighten them. Blow through them with the aerosol duster, and then hold them to the light to check that you can see through them clearly and nothing is blocking the tiny orifices. I think if you do a search, there is a pdf guide to Dellortos carbs and how to set them up. Rember, cleanliness is next to godliness when it comes to carbs.

Just reread your thread and you say you haven't been able to get the carb off the scoot??? You should be able to loosen a large jubilee clip which holds the carb to the inlet manifold at the rear of the carb, or it may be a clamp on a Delly. Then gently pull the carb away from the manifold.

Dapper, the carb itself is off, the only remaining connection is the choke. There are 2 nuts (not brass) that aattche the choke cable to the carb. I have undone both of these and the black outer and nuts are both clear, the cable however is still attached. I cant see into the hole eneough to see how it attaches. I presume i cant simply pull the meatl cable. It must be attached on the inside somehow?

Im at work at mo so doing this from memory...lol

Hi mate. assuming you get that far when you put the choke back in the with the cable attached there should be a few mm of free play in the outer cable, this will allow the choke plunger to sit on its seal in the carb when not required. If you fit the choke before fitting the carb also check that the plunger lifts of its seat when the choke is operated you should be able to see this by looking through the choke gallery. 8-)
