anyone got a scooter loopy QA..?

Anyone have a scooter loopy john QA throttle? I fitted one to my Li and it only has one grub screw, yet there are 3 holes? I tighten down the one grub screw but after about 5 mins riding the whole thing slips and if i dont whip off the headset quick and re tighten it up the whole wheel works loose...I cant tell if the 2 side holes have threads as there to small, but it would seem to make sense as 2 either side should stop it from twisting?... :?

Anyone shed any light on this its doing me head in... :evil:

the two holes you mention are for a split pin that goes through the throttle rod

correct, the grub screw is for splined rods or use the two holes for a pin. although i drill and tap the rod and use M5 bolt rather than the pins as i find it easyer to get them in and out.

Nice one lads, i have a splined end but it has a groove out. All i have been able to do is screw the grub douwn into this groove but it wouldnt hold. Now i know why. I presume the rod fits in the groove from one side to the other? Where these rods meant to come as part of the kit, mine didnt? does john sell them sepratley?

tryed tightening the screw down onto the splines rather than the groove? could also drill a 2mm recess on the splines for the screw to lock into better?

to use a pin on a splined rod you would need to drill a new hole through the rod to aline with the hole on the QA,

The rod i have is splined at the end and in this splined section is a vertical groove. So does this mean that i should be screwing the one grub screw down into the spline (eg, not the groove side) and that will be enough? Or should/can I put a split pin through the two holes and the groove.

Wez, i have the splined end with the groove cut in. The grub screw on its own whether screwed into the splines or right down into the groove isnt strong eneough to stop the rod roataing in the wheel after 5 mins of riding. When i got the kit i thought i must have got the wrong one? Your suggestion of drilling and tapping sounds like the way to go, where did you drill through on the rod? Did you deepen the groove to get the bolt through or go through the middle of the groove and out the other side. I guess it doesnt matter apart from im worried that by the time iv drilled and tapped it will have weakened the rod. ideally rod without a groove would be the best bet then i could drill straight through the middle.... :?

I would drill through the rod as per the later type to fix it more securly.

All ive done is cut a 5mm thread through the rod rather that using a pin.

No early and late are differnt ends and furthers parts would need changing,

The pics were just to demonsrate the difference, it would be easyer just drilling your rod, theres no real stress on the throttle rod so it wont hurt.
