if you're still looking for things to make...

I've never liked the split pin connections on the oe petrol rod/tap joins and have used UJs from model boats to get round issues with carbs being in the way.

Fitted another one of these today, and, as usual, had to reduce the diameter of the tap rod to fit the connector, the other option is to thread the rod.
And, once again, I bought up all the local model shop's supply of 6mm connectors...

So to make something that would fit the UJ without having to do anything to the tap rod would be welcome. It's a slight chore doing that in-situ too.

Like these :

the brass bits are a splined push fit on the plastic UJ
the one on the left is M6 threaded, the other has a tiny grub screw, that I generally position in the remains of the split pin hole on the tap rod.

what do you think david ?

Can 2 or 3 of these find their way round eg. a Chiselspeed (short) manifold and a VHSB?

probably, I've never been unable to make it work with various combinations of carbs, manifolds & taps.
this is on mine, with quite a stubby manifold and a VHSA Image

They work really well - very smooth operation at any angle. Downside is that the u-joint, fuel tap rod, and fuel tap are all kind of wed together for life.

I had a company quote me on making custom joints but the price was just too expensive. The best solution I could think of was to have a larger brass end made to accommodate the larger diameter on one end. Trouble is these things are splined and as far as I know machining splines can get spendy.
