I'm currently running a Mikuni with shortened manifold, no filter and no hole in panel - and all seems fine.

I was wondering if re-fitting the airbox - baffles removed and connected through to the carb would have positive or negative benefits?

I just thought there may be a better chance of getting more cooler/fresher air from the air scoop than from under the panel?
If it aint broke.........tinker with it.....

You can and alot do, one problem I encountered is that the mikuni sits higher up than a dellorto sh, so the end result is it bunches the bellow(air hose) up and forces the carb down and fouls on the cowling

Maybe a little hard to see,but the bellows isn't sitting in a relaxed fashoin.

So you can cut'n'shut the air box or run something like this;
