evening..

nearly finished with my rebuild, but having to tackle the little problems along the way.

could somebody point me in the right direction regarding what i need to set my keihin pwk carb up on my 186 mugello.

1., the throttle length of the cable seems short, where can i get the right size.( is it best to have a cable which has only one nipple for its respective carb on the end and free at the headset end.. and just use a adjustable locking nipple once fitted???????)

2., plus the choke is the same. i think i need one with a very small end on as the one i've got won't fit into the choke plunger assembly.
i can't remember but one of the lads on here does proper choke cable lengths or i could be wrong..

3., whats best for giving the carb a good clean, carb degreaser? hot boiling water ? acid?

It's a few years since I set my PWK but here goes:

At headset, use one of the removable trunnions with the grub screw. From memory I think these are already attached to the longer nylon lined cables from MB, which are the type you'll need (many other dealers sell them too). If you used the fixed end then all the adjusting needs to be done at the carb end which involves cutting the cable inner, sometimes outer too, and resoldering the nipple.

A dell'orto cable adjuster (any Piaggio dealer will have these) will screw into the top of your carb. Use one with an angle and make sure the cable has a good loop going into the top of the carb ie. don't try and give the cable outer a 90 degree bend!

The choke. Mine is the SCK one but with the ScootRS plunger. The SCK one, at the time, was much better made than the ScootRS one but the plunger was the wrong size You'll probably just need to file down the nipple, with a small file or with a dremel, to get it to fit in the plunger.

Cleaning the carb. I've always used carb cleaner in a spray can. I think I recall seeing a post somewhere saying that carb cleaner is actually the same as brake cleaner but don't quote me on that

MB for the throttle cable (removable trunnion type)

Choke cable from knowledge (Ive had 2 25mm/30mm dell) good fit..but you might just have to slight fettle the one you have for snug fit (its only soft so is easy)

carb cleaner and leave to soak..as has been said..
