Grade/ thickness of wire to make a new loom

Can anyone tell me what type, grade thickness of wire is used to make a wiring loom?
Thinking of making up my own so I can position my battery, indicators rectifier exactly where I want them and need to know the spec of the wire.
Does the wire going to the battery need to be thicker than the rest to handle the current drawn?
Maybe modifying an indian one my be easier?

The wiring to the battery connections doesn't need to be thicker than the other wires. Install an inline fuse to be on the safe side. Make sure you use quality connectors (VWP) crimped with the correct tool and use insulating shrouds over every terminal. I've looked at wiring problems on many forums and the state of the terminations is laughable. It's no wonder so many sooterists have problems. Good, tight, clean connections will eradicate most problems, unless you have a dodgy CDI/Regulator.

buy a know-speed wiring kit from knowledge: comes c/w the crimping tool and all the connectors you are likely to need: top quality too and all for less than £20.

I cant see how much wire you get is it for 10 meters?

I've built quite a few special looms now, the company I use for parts is Vehicle Wiring Products and the best spec of wire is modern PVC thin wall 16.5 amp cable. This specification of cable handles much more current than was ever possible with any stock loom be it Indian or Italian.

Depending on what you plan to do with regard to spot lights etc you might want to think about relays to reduce the current load on your switches etc. Another advantage of 16.5amp thin wall is that you will get less power loss from this type of loom as there is less resistance to the current particularly where higher output stators, batteries and spot lights are used.

16.5 amp thin wall is available in lots of different colours and is actually a bit thinner than the original wiring. The same company do all the crimping tools, terminals, insulators, sheathing and heat shink. They have a web site www.vehicleproducts.co.uk , online shop and mail order. Prices are very reasonable and delivery is fast.

It's worth giving vehicle wiring products a ring if you're unsure - very helpful and knowlegable and will set you right - their thin wall cable is a thing of beauty and they've got all the heatshrink and sleeving and connectors.
Dapper is spot on - how many smart scooters are let down by those skanky blue and red crimp on connectors.

I cant see how much wire you get is it for 10 meters?

i would have thought 0.6 to be a little thin
