Hi all,

any tips on engine case cleaning would be warmly welcome,
I dont need a mirror finish, just what to get them as clean as I can

I have some parraffin and scotch brite, so am going to give this a go
but any other users concoctions, i.e. what you have used in the past would be helpful...

Has anyone used oven cleaner ? etc, etc

i use the dish washer but only when she is out

Brake cleaning fluid and a tooth brush, a bit labour intensive bu you can get good results

i live on my own remember to turn the salt of though it wont remove it all but helps i soaked mine with jizer first and removed all the big lumps

not worth the time or effort when vapour blasting is so cheap & effective. It's environmently friendly, non-abrasive & will make your cases look like they just rolled off factory floor.

ok, an anorak thing, but:

vapour blasting puts you far away from a factory finish. grit blasting is senseless as the surface
gets too rough. lead or walnut or glasspearl blasting gives a smooth surface but looks completely different to the "natural" factory casting-surface.


and if cleaning an engine casing for 1 hour is too much work, then the whole lambretta isn´t the right vehicle as you always have to check or repair things and sit in the pub with black nails.

Try blasting with bicarb soda

It`s cheap in bulk won`t knacker anything and gives a nice finish it can also be washed off with water.

But I like the dishwasher
