Good morning all,

Can anyone help. I am trying to get the bearings out of my front hub which is a disc conversion (nissin) on my GP200, indian. Taken out the circlip from one side but the bearings seem to be pushed upto a sholder and there is no room to get a drift in from behind the bearing.

I got mine out with a long flat screwdriver and a hammer to tap it out, may have damaged the bearing but I was putting new ones in anyway.

I believe general concensus is to renew front wheel bearings if you have to remove them as damage to the bearing is unavoidable when removing them,,,besides they're cheap enough.

NB. ensure the speedo drive is installed on the brake hub BEFORE tapping in new bearings as hub can easily crack............

The way I do it is to move the centre spacer tube to the side with a screwdriver etc, then use a large pin punch to knock the circlip side bearing out first using the spacer as a drift

Thanks for the comments, problem I have is that the centre bore of the hub is only 0.5mm larger than the i/d of the bearing. I think I will have to make an exandable pull rod to clamp on the i/d of the bearing, heat the hub up and pull the bearing out. After I get the bearings out I will drill the hub out with a decent crlearance so I can get at them from behind if they need to come out again.

Reason for them coming out and being replaced is that the hub is being shot blasted and powder coated.

Finally got the centre tube to move so can now get a drift behind the bearing.

These bearings are always a tight fit. Ensure that the heat being used to powdercoat is not excessive otherwise you won't be able to fit the bearings due to distortion and, of course, mask everything that is a bearing/ seal/fitting surface. It's a b****d trying to get it off afterwards
