I'm thinking of having rear footpegs instead of runner boards for my pilion on my GP project.

Not sure how feasable this is. Are the struts strong enough to mount pegs? Are they in the best place for passenger footpegs?

If not I'm looking a bit of advice on the best way of strengthening them.

Thanks

I've done that before, the struts will be strong enough, you'd want some that folded ideally and then make the necessary brackets. I was going to fit some on my rear struts that would have folded backwards, which looked neater than up, and easier to remove/refit panel.
but I found for me that the position would be too far back for pillion, so one's legs would be bent too much and wouldn't be able to brace against braking etc. even my 8 year old boy [my usual pillion] prefers using the front pegs hanging off the engine mount. I have got quite a low seat though. So I removed the hangers completely which makes the back end a lot slimmer.
Who would you be taking pillion ?
How often ? How far ?
Get them to try it out

Thanks for the reply.

It'll be my partner and we go pretty much everywhere. Mostly local, but some long runs too.

get her to sit on the back and find the most comfy position. it probably depends quite a lot upon what seat you have, and how long her legs are.

I'll be using an Ancillotti cut back and she's got wee legs. :)

Thanks for the tips.

Looks like I may need brackets made for pegs from the engine mounts. Is there anyone on here that can make them for me?

there will be some vibration if bolted directly to the engine.
I've just made some brackets up for mine using ScooterLoopyJohn exhaust clamps to mount them to the silent blocks.
I had used BMX pegs initially but the vibes were bad, so adapted the hangers to fit some kawasaki pegs. I welded the end of a motorbike kickstart onto the lambretta one as otherwise the pedal was just where I wanted the peg to be...

I've now been trying to work out the best way of doing pillion footpegs and I'm really struggling.

I'd really appreciate some ideas. I've got to pull my finger out and get something sorted.

Stick with the floorboards, it'll be one less problem that you've got to overcome. :P

Where was your finger? ;)
I do not try to explain why I ride Lambrettas,
For those who understand, no explanation is necessary,
For those who don't, no explantion is possible.
