Posted this up earlier but i think it got lost along with my new membership!!
Anyways here it is again, my first post on the site, and thanks to everyone who replied earlier.

Im rebuilding my lammy silver special, in London with an old SR barrel i got off a mate. The barrel is ROUGH inside and needs tidying up and re-honing, i may need it porting etc. i also need a head and a piston to suit (please post suggestions).
The 150 casings have been blasted and welded ready for the SR kit.
Funds are tight so ive got to keep me costs LOW.
Ive also been offered an Indian GP 200 crank from another pal for cheap, he recommends changing the big end bearing.
Im looking at using a clubman and a possibly a 25mm carb, and 12V kit.

Feel free to post suggestions on how to get he most out of this set up and anything else that may be useful to bear in mind with the rebuild.

I've done a few of these- the SR barrels were so cheap it pays to experiment a little with them.

I took all mine out to 66mm (198cc) although the guy that does my rebores thought that it would leave the walls too thin. No problems at all though

Also asked him to give me a 3 thou clearance (BARREL TO PISTON)- again he thought it would be too tight but no seizures at all despite only running in for a max of 100 miles

Took about 3mm off the inlet side of the piston with a Black and Decker band file

Raised the Exhaust port by c 2mm and widened it to about 65% of bore (again with the B&D)

To be honest, I'm no tuner but felt encouraged to have a go and see what happened as the barrel was so cheap. The piston was a Mahle at around £30 from Scooter Restorations

All the scoots really went well and would sit at a genuine 60mph all day with no hint of a seize

Carbs were 22mm Jetex's (123 main jets)- no probs with Delly components, and the exhausts 42mm Clubbies.

The "bridge" in the airscoops were removed, as were the internals in the airboxes.

Worth considering IMO
