Casa 185 - cylinder base gasket has wrong dimensions???

Not sure if this is a general problem or something 'batch' related, but my kit has two base gaskets, in two different thicknesses, but neither fits properly.

The piston diameter is correct so it's not like it's a GP gasket, but the stud holes are all out by a few mm. Plus, the port cut outs do not match the shape of the case properly, either. Really strange and really annoying.

Anyone else here who's fitted the kit have this issue?

And why are two gaskets supplied with different thicknesses? (forgive my ignorance - first time engine rebuild)

Cheers,

Dan

if you've tried them both ways round, then maybe they're for 200 casing ?
different thicknesses can be used to alter squish and port timing

I dont understand why with the kit they dont do a proper gasket.
With my RB20 and the base gasket from the kit, i think that is a 175 gasket and the holes are ok but i must to cut the gasket to match with the cylinder ports.

I have three base gaskets here that do not even come close to fitting a TV 175 case. Too small on the outside edge near the transfers. Shame, cause the rest of the gaskets in the kits are spot on, even a thin drive side bearing halit washer. I'll check to see who made them , won't be buying them again....

Built one of these earlier in the year with no problems to gasket fitting except had to trim internal edges to match the transfers. As Byron rightly says two gaskets of different thicknesses supplied to adjust squish.

If you give Danny a call at Scootopia in Weston-super-Mare on 01934 641811, I'm sure he'd be happy to give some further guidence....................

Thanks for the advice, everyone.

I figured the different thickness base gaskets were squish related, but hadn't read anything about this in relation to this kit (i.e. as it is supposed to be 'bolt on').

I'd be interested know what people would recommend (i.e. thicker or thinner) - anyone experimented with this, or what the preferred squish would be running a standard bottom end with this kit on top?

Re. the gaskets - the more I look, the more annoyed I am. I can see that the area around the transfers needs to be trimmed, but having the holes slightly out of alignment is just stupid - if I sit the gasket over the studs it doesn't rest flat on the casing. Argh!
