Hi guys,
I'm going to fit my motorcycle clutch tomorrow (pictured here http://scooterotica.org/tempforum/viewt ... f=7&t=5790)
I was thinking that because this uses Honda NSR clutch plates I should try and use just plain SAE30 2 stroke transoil.
My thoughts were it would be a bit better on the gearbox and bearing etc as its light than the 90 weight oil normally used
Its also easier to get!!!
I'd like to know what other peoples thoughts were on this?
Cheers,
Christiaan
Gearbox oil weight
what weight does a honda nsr use

With a lighter oil are you not running the chance of it passing the seals?

I wouldnt have thought so.RBG wrote:With a lighter oil are you not running the chance of it passing the seals?
Pretty much all jap 2 strokes use SAE30... as well as chicken coops - they dont have that trouble.
As far as I can see the only risk I run is the clutch plates slipping? I'm going to try it and see what happens!

I generally run 30w on customers motors while I 'm putting a few hundred miles on them before sending them out. It's way cheaper, epsecially when you dumping it after a short period. What I notice more than anything is increased chain noise from using the thinner viscoscity oil. No seal problems..
That's not going anywhere...

Wont that contaminate the clutch plates?
I ended up using transoil SAE30 oil and it seems to work OK... although I agree with you - You can hear more noise coming from the gearbox!

Does it contaminate Vespa clutch plates? The answer to that question would be no.Dryballs wrote:dirtyhandslopez wrote:I generally run 30w on customers motors while I 'm putting a few hundred miles on them before sending them out. BTW, I am using a non-detergent 30w engine oil.
