Had to drop engine out cus base gasket was leaking. Got a new one from SR, but it doesn't have as much meat on it to trim to match ported casings and cylinder as the old one. Feck!! So just tried a dry fit with head gasket and get a 1.2mm squish without the base gasket. Have Hylomar, HT silicone sealant and ordinary clear bathroom silicone sealant. Can I fit without a base gasket?? I have trimmed the new base gasket as much as I dare and have about 3mm. mating surfaces all round. So is a base gasket a must have. Need a quick answer as I'm off work tomorrow and want to get the fecker back in.
